Which Way is the Wind Blowing ?

I remember in my days in college reading the works of George Orwell and Aldus Huxley and being flabbergasted about the vivid scenes of their futurist society that were so manipulated by the political powers in order to continue their dominance of society. I was taught that not to worry about their forecast because we live in a democracy and a free and open society. Besides according to the teachers Huxley and Orwell were concerned with totalitarian like regimes such as Hitler and Stalin. However, looking at the week that just passed, I am not so sure about that for today we have a scene too reminiscent of a scene in 1984.

Beginning with the Nobel Peace Prize, President Obama declares “A Just War,” which sounds like to me “War =Peace.”

Then we have a whole slew of criticism of an insurance laden “Health Care Reform” bill, however the American Media landscape credits Obama with a win for being able to obtain 60 votes for a compromised, of a compromised, compromised bill.

Furthermore, the American media also credits Obama with orchestrating a “deal” in Copenhagen on a Global Warming Treaty, although the international media are portraying the deal as a disaster and that nothing positive came out from it.

From the London Independent,

-“The most progressive US president in a generation comes to the most important international meeting since the Second World War and delivers a speech so devoid of substance that he might as well have made it on speaker-phone from a beach in Hawaii.”

and from the Friends of the Earth,

“Sham Deal Requires Nothing, Accomplishes Nothing”

The more I see of the news, the more I am tending to believe the weather man. At least he/she is right some of the times.

Peace

Robb Kidd

“You don’t need a weatherman to tell you which way the wind blows.” Bob Dylan
