Three of a Kind--Haiti Recovery ????

Seeing the damage and destruction of Haiti deeply saddens my heart. However unlike most of America I have been deeply saddened for years. It is merely criminal and immoral that so close to America one of the world’s poorest countries is allowed to exist. Nevertheless, it is not that America has stood by silent for all these years, America has been a willing participant in Haiti’s demise. America’s neo-colonialism is a direct cause of these conditions, and until America’s love of money and power are put to rest we will continue to see more catastrophes like this.

Lost amongst the train-wreck corporate run media is the questions that rational people should see with an event like this, however as you recall neither did any one do that after New Orleans was destroyed by Katrina.

  1. Why did America rob the Haitian treasury for most of the 20th century?
  2. Why did America prop up brutal dictators in place of democratically elected leaders?
  3. Why did America force horrific trade barriers that treat Haiti like a giant sweet shop?
  4. Why has America practically been a cheerleader for a country lacking environmental regulations or simple building standers?

Nonetheless, these questions may never be asked especially while the global triumphant of Clinton-Bush-Obama are raising money for “relief.” Does anyone recall the Bush-1 and Clinton New Orleans relief effort and how much of failure that is?

I hope that the Haitian people emerge out of this a stronger people, for as population Haiti has suffered enough, in the meantime while we Americans are living a life of luxury we need to ask ourselves who is to blame. Instead of sending money to a relief effort headed but multi-millionaires and corporate monsters let us all stop supporting an economic system that takes advantages of other humans.
